I was surprised that the dload surg2 would obtain the audio from youtube that dload surg3 wouldn't when using the youtube downloader. The downloader sniffer on download surg3 did get the job done. Between both of the products I have been able to get the audio that I need so far. Once you get use to the necessary process it's pretty much straight forward. I'm happy with having both of the products.

Song Surgeon works as advertised mostly. The chord identifier mechanism isn’t always as accurate as I expected.
Download surgeon is lethargic if any other app is running behind it.
The most effective function I have discovered is the tempo slow device. It is highly functional for its design.

My gospel group sings with tracks and we have used Song Surgeon for years to change keys. Sometimes I can't find a performance track for a song but, with version 5 Pro, I can buy the song, go to the Vocal Remove page ,remove vocals and now I have a performance track. If you sing or play, you will love Song Surgeon!

Hi! I paid for a lifetime download licence and conversion licence for YouTube but there were always hassles and problems for a non-tech person like me.
So Download Surgeon has been extremely useful for me and I thank you for providing it.
Areas for future help for me - a possibility to opt to download both the video and a separate audio with one instruction rather than going through the download instruction process twice. To remove the irritating "adverts" at the end of uploads on some YouTube channels which redirect you to another or similar video would be much appreciated as it frequently happens that the end of the video or audio one is interested in is blanketed out by the intrusive terminal advert. Thanks and all the best!

Windows 10 integration, with all its recent security upgrades, forces me to remember to start DS3 by right-clicking and Running As Admin. I hate that 'cause I always forget. Is DS3 partly to blame for this inconvenience? Are there definitive instructions to make it work as normal? Otherwise, the app works well despite occasional issues with certain file formats. I really don't have time to troubleshoot the app, so I hope it can "just work" like the old Sniffer in VS.

[ TMJ Response: As we state on the site, DS cannot download from all sites. In those cases where it cannot, the SC Recorder is your fall-back module that will allow you to grab a copy. ]

Download Surgeon v3 is much more reliable than the current functionality of the Sniffer in Video Surgeon2, this utility no longer functions as reliably as it used to.
I have only used the Youtube Downloader in Download Surgeon v3, this always successfully downloads the normal youtube format.

I use mainly YouTube to download videos and learn chords - using DS3 and SongSurgeon. Both excellent tools.

However, although I always check that my DownloadSurgeon s/w is up-to-date, I frequently fail to download from YT, getting an "Unable to load metadata" error.

[TMJ Software Comment: The auto updater was temporarily disabled is some versions. A complete reinstall would solve this problem for the customer.]

I use Download surgeon mainly for downloading from youtube and then play it in Video surgeon. It works very well. I was also able to download video from Vimeo without a problem. I have some issues with the sniffer, which I hope to resolve with the help of the support staff. It is a great product.

I have one query. When recording some songs from You Tube (settings Download Videos, MP4 format) I sometimes get a message as follow:-
"This item was recorded in a format that is not supported."
Is there anything I can do please?

I purchased Video Surgeon some time ago and really love it, but found the sniffer wouldn't open some files I wanted. I tested Download Surgeon 3 and found the sniffer grabbed those files. What’s great is that I can open Download Surgeon files with Video Surgeon and use all the editing and looping functions. Both products are great and have been really helpful. I have been using DS3 (as I used DS2) to down load video lessons for guitar. Many instructors build their lessons in parts. One part of the lesson is free to everyone. Other parts of the lesson are not. I understand that this is a way to get the public to purchase the full lessons; however, I use DS3 to down load the other parts of the lesson(s). It is an excellent tool for capturing the complete lesson. My transition to DS3 was easy. In addtion, I have both Song Surgeon and Video Surgeon. Song Surgeon helps me with the chord structure of songs I wish to learn and Video Surgeon is most helpful with quick recording of all types of videos. I am very please with these products and will continue to support them in the future.

It's great product. Works as described in there promotional material. I had some problems with the install and set-up because I don't possess the computer skills that my young grand children have but with a text to James I was quickly straightened out and running the program. Much to my surprise and delight, James replied to me early on the Sunday morning of a long weekend. That's dedication and customer support; unheard of most other places. Kudos to James and his products. I subsequently purchased Song Surgeon also.

I recently upgraded to iOS Catalina on my iMac, and now Download Surgeon will not launch. I used my original registration information to re-register it, and it failed. The error message says the license file contains an incorrect computer ID, and it has been removed from my machine. I will say, however that even before I upgraded to Catalina, I could not get the software to work, despite having followed the video tutorial. Not pleased.

[ADMIN] Catalina has caused several issues, this was one. It can easily be fixed though. Please contact the Support Desk.

I purchased Download Surgeon 3 to use on my Mac. It kept crashing. I notified James and he made a suggestion. I tried it and it did not solve the problem. James then took control of my computer and worked his magic, and presto! It has worked perfectly ever since. He was very prompt and quick about solving the problem I was having. Oh, by the way, the problem is a Mac problem not a Download Surgeon problem. Thanks Jim, Love the product.

I raised Ticket ID: 26411 shortly after buying DS3 on 20 Sept 2019 as the SC recorder would not work. There was an initial prompt response and on that Friday I was asked to send in the log for further investigation "on Monday". I have since heard nothing despite having written again asking about progress. Very disappointed about this - I've purchased previous versions of DS and have VS and SS as well. They're all good products, but support is apparently letting you down.

[ADMIN] -- We responded to ALL tickets within 24 hours. Sadly, there are times when Help Desk responses end up in Spam or Junk Mail folders - which is what I suspect happened here.

I have tried many different download products, with varying levels of success. This is consistently the most useful and successful and converts directly into MP3 format so I don't have to re-address each song. I play guitar and use DS2 for downloading learning lessons and others. I use this frequently and it works great. I really like that I can download from sites that don't allow you to download. The slow down, tempo and looping features are wonderful. If you need help, James Todd is very quick to respond. Great Purchase!

This is a fast and safe way for me to convert youtube videos to MP3s and save them - I use them to play along on my fiddle. Previously, the sites I used were slow and often included malware.

installed on 2 machines but not used yet. not crazy about having to deactivate from the activated machine rather than the alternate machine I want to activate and use as I can in song surgeon and video surgeon. can this be done within my account ?

[ The licensing for Download Surgeon is different than our other products. We state on the check out page of the Shopping cart that a purchased includes a license for a single machine.

The reason is because of the support required for this Download Surgeon. Because of what this product does it is much more susceptible to being broken by changes in operating systems, updates to operating systems, firewalls, antivirus programs, malware programs and permission issues - and therefore may require more intensive support than our other products. That is why we limit the number of licenses to one. ]

I use Download Surgeon for converting YouTube Premium music videos to MP4 for presentations I give to senior citizens, like myself, on the Origins of Rock and Roll. This way I don't have to rely on internet connections or worry about a youtube video being removed.

I forgot to mention this in my initial review. The Technical Support from Todd, Michael & James, Inc. is the BEST I've ever encountered. I am a power user and probably push the products to the limit, hitting situations that a lot of people never see. Every email is answered in a timely manner! Also, I've made several suggestions for Song Surgeon and they added one of them to Ver 5.

Two other "general" comments on the company is that they do not require you to remove older version of the software when a new release comes out. So if there is something you like about the older program you can use it and not having to worry about the multiple versions interfering with each other. The second feature, which I personally think is awesome, is the ability to manage licenses. If I get a new laptop, I can easily move my license from the old PC to the new one. This is a big convenience because I hate having to call companies to have them do this simple function. In some cases they act like I'm trying to misuse my license. With Todd, Michael & James, Inc., they have a very user friendly way of allowing me to transfer licenses built into the software products. I feel that all companies should do this.

Since I forgot to mention these great features, I would give the product a 4.5 score. This review is a 5 star and my previous was 4 stars. So it averages to 4.5.

I highly recommend this product to band members, family, friends and anyone reading this review.

I have been a big fan of DL Surgeon. I purchased 3 licenses for Ver 2 but only 1 license for Ver 3.

I am a huge advocate for your company. I use DL Surgeon and Song Surgeon very often. I have a situation where the Ver 2 Sniffer works better for me than Ver 3. So honestly, I use Ver 2 most of the time. To me the interface of the Sniffer requiring me to use a special browser is inconvenient. However, I have run into a couple situations where the Ver 2 Sniffer did not work. The Ver 3 Sniffer worked great! So while I prefer the Ver 2 interface, I have used Ver 3 in cases where the Ver 2 didn't work. The other functions, i.e., YT DL & OS DL worked flawlessly. I haven't used the SC Recorder, but I suspect that will be great as well.

Thank you for allowing me to provide feedback. As I said earlier, I am a great advocate of your company and would be more than happy to be involved in Beta testing any product except Video Surgeon.

DL Surgeon & Song Surgeon are two of the MOST USED products on 3 of my computers.

This is the best version to date.
I like the new window where you can select either Audio OR Video Mp4 then give the file a name and file folder where to keep the copy of the download BEFORE one starts to record.Much better!

The product is much better after the recent youtube downloader updates. Faster than it was initially. You do need a 'minimize' button on the progress indicator box. Having it in my face the whole time during download is why I only gave this 4 stars.

One thing I would like to see changed is if you are going to record several videos form the same source using the screen capture that you set the screen size once only not every time you want to record.

DS3 a little slower to load than 2 but it probably has a lot more internally going on. Once loaded the 64bit version really shines. Maybe video is slightly slower loading than 2 but you will not miss your bus over the wait time.

This is the best version of Download Surgeon I have used, and I have used earlier versions of the software. What I love the most about this current version is that it allows the downloading of ‘playlists’ from YouTube. In my opinion, it is well worth the modest cost for the software. Customer service and support is great.

DS3 is the best video download product I have used. DS2 and VS used to have a few copying issues due to restrictions that YouTube put on the videos. Now I'm easily getting a 99% success rate with DS3.

Now I can either download a group of videos at one time or choose to download the music from those videos at one time. Talk about the time saved. This product was well worth the money. I'm anxious to see what's coming in the future from the brilliant minds of Jim and Todd. BTW, a shout out to you both for your great customer service. Last year I had a problem with my VS software and even though I was out of the warranty window for support help, they still helped me fix the problem.

Anyone hesitating buying a product from these gentlemen need not worry. They back the product in all ways.

I downloaded DS 3 and it works fine on Truefire video. Video and Audio are both great.

It's possible that it might not work on all videos however because I suspect they have different kinds of protection on different videos (gross assumption on my part).

I have only tried one video, that would not work properly with DS 2 but worked perfectly with the new version.

With Truefire you get all kinds of different teachers and a wide variety of ideo/audio quality.

So who knows which videos have protection and which do not?

With DS2 I tried all forms of download and none worked on the Truefire videos that I was interested in.

Thank You, I am blown away. Solves a major issue for me.
